A Professional Will should be Drafted Safely, Even during the current Pandemic

We would always recommend that you should use a professional to draft, and ensure the execution of your will has been done correctly.

The current Covid 19 restrictions have made it difficult for some wills to be executed correctly.

The rules relating to the drafting and the execution of a will, are specifically set out in law, and contained in Section 9 of The Wills Act 1837. These rules have been around for a very long time.

We have seen suggestions in various press, that their rules in relation to the execution of a valid will, have been relaxed, or in some way modern technology can assist, this is not so, the situation regarding the execution of a will has not changed during the current Covid 19 regulations.

You maybe concerned how you can safely arrange for your will to be drafted and executed in the current climate. Do not worry, there is no need to put yourself at any unnecessary risk, and you can still safely socially distance when having  a professional will drafted. Many will writers are offering to take your instructions remotely, so there is no need for you to visit their offices, or for them to visit your home.

During the pandemic crisis, we have guaranteed that should we receive instructions for wills, we will have them to you within 24 hours in a draft form. If you then approve that draft or need alternations, we will ensure the engrossed will is sent to you very quickly. We understand the concern that people may have in view of what is going on in the world.

You can give your instructions from the safety and comfort of your home, without any worries. The methods we offer vary, but range from video calls, so you can speak face to face, or telephone calls, or indeed emails or letters.

If you are not able to give your instructions remotely, then it may be possible for a person representing the firm to still visit in person, so the appointment and instructions may be taken.

This very much depends on the position you find yourself in, and what your risk is currently under the Government regulations.

We are quite happy to talk to you about our process, and how we will take your instructions in person, while keeping yourself and ourselves safe, and only arrange to meet with you if you are happy with our response.

We have in the past met people outside, and where possible, wearing PPE and ensuring at all times a safe distance is maintained.

If you are looking to have a will drafted, please make sure you contact us.

We are here to assist.
